Here is the plan for the Big Row, 2019:
When: July 17, 2019 through July 19, 2019
Where: Starting at Lake George Village, New York on Lake George, ending at Fort Ticonderoga, New York on Lake Champlain.
Distance: 36 miles or so OR 37 miles and a 2.5 mile portage.
Daily schedule:
Tuesday, July 16: We will camp at Lake George Battleground Campground, Lake George Village, New York. We have sites reserved. We need to help Fort Ticonderoga get their bateau from the fort to Lake George, so we’ll transfer one of our bateau to the bateau wagon to facilitate doing that.
Wednesday, July 17: Launch at the Million Dollar Beach boat launch, then row north to Floating Battery Island. This will be our long day, and we’ll need to have at least one boat stop at Narrow Island to check in for our campsites on Floating Battery Island. Distance is 16.0 miles.
Thursday, July 18: Row from Floating Battery Island to Rogers Rock Campground. Distance is around 13.3 miles.
Friday, July 19: Row from Rogers Rock to Mossy Point Boat Launch. Distance is around 4.0 miles. If there is interest, we can portage one of the boats to La Chute using the bateau wagon. The portage is around 2.5 miles, mostly down hill. For the other boats (or for all of them), we’ll use modern vehicles to move the boats to Ticonderoga Ferry Boat launch. Either way, we’ll row to Fort Ticonderoga’s dock, which is 3 miles from La Chute or 2 miles from Ticonderoga Ferry.
Saturday, July 20 – Sunday, July 21: participate in Fort Ticonderoga’s Montcalm’s Cross reenactment.
